Mechanical / Aerospace Engineer


LOCATION - TOKYO, JAPAN


This job is to design structures and mechanisms for the next-generation of spacecraft and planetary rovers for ispace, inc. The ideal candidate will have experience in integrated design for manufacturing and robotics applications. The job includes all phases in design, from helping a team to define system architecture, to design and simulation, to supporting small scale manufacturing. Prior experience with high reliability designs (for example in aerospace, medical or automotive industries), design-for-manufacture and finite element analysis is required. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in composite material design and fabrication, and knowledge of electronics and aerospace or space science topics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Participate in product definition, specification and requirements phases

- High level design including trade studies, material selection and manufacturing process selection

- Detailed design of spacecraft components for thermal and structural performance

- Finite element analysis for optimizing design, especially for the vibration environment

- Supporting other engineers' thermal analysis by providing and simplifying 3D models

- Supporting electrical engineers with mechanical requirements

- Hardware assembly and integration


REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent

- 3+ years of experience designing for manufacturing including 3D modeling, creation of 2D drawings

- 3+ years of experience performing finite element analysis

- Experience supporting manufacturing processes


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field

- Design and simulation using composite materials

- Specific finite element analysis experience in transient, non-linear problems

- Specific finite element analysis to simulate performance in thermal and vibration environments

- Solidworks, FEMAP and NASTRAN experience 

- Small spacecraft design and / or integration
