Spacecraft Harness Engineer


This position will be responsible for the harness subsystem analysis and design efforts for ispace’s lunar lander development. ispace is a leading micro-robotics Japanese company with a subsidiary in the United States and another in Europe. ispace’s Hakuto rover won the Google XPRIZE mobility milestone award and is a leading contender for the $20M Grand Prize. ispace’s lunar lander is its next step towards prospecting for, mining and utilizing lunar resources to expand human presence in space.

The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge base in electrical systems analysis, design and integration including redundant and reliable power and data lines. The effort includes all phases of design, from helping the team define system architecture, to component selection and supporting small scale manufacturing and hardware/software debugging. A desire to iterate designs quickly and interest in performing hands-on prototyping is a must.



  • Perform harness subsystem analysis, using inputs from all stakeholders and flow down of upper-level requirements
  • Participate in avionics architecture definition, including choice between centralized or decentralized architectures, and interface definitions
  • Participate in requirements specification phases
  • Perform harness detailed design and routing
  • Perform internal and external electrical interface design
  • Collaborate on parts selection, including make or buy decisions
  • Define verification and validation approach of complete harness
  • Selection of ground support equipment
  • Support harness integration, troubleshooting and testing


  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Five or more years’ experience in harness design and integration for aerospace applications, including equipment selection
  • Experience in ground testing activities
  • Experience in procurement and integration of electrical/electronic components
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills


  • Ph.D. degree in Aerospace/Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Ten or more years’ spacecraft harness design and routing experience
  • Experience with harness manufacturing for small spacecraft and/or lander
  • Experience with electrical ground support equipment
