Research and Development Engineer

LOCATION - luxembourg

This job is to procure, prototype and design components for the next-generation of spacecraft and planetary rovers for ispace, inc, as well as to research and develop technologies for future missions. The ideal candidate will have experience in integrated design for robotics applications. The job includes all phases in design, from helping a team to define system architecture, to design and simulation, to supporting customers. Prior experience with high reliability designs (for example in aerospace, medical or automotive industries), design-for-manufacture and finite element analysis is desired. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in composite material design and fabrication, and knowledge of electronics and aerospace or space science topics.


- define requirements and specifications for customers and partners for space robotics projects

- work with lead engineer and systems engineer to design, prototype, procure and/or modify drilling and sampling mechanisms to support the requirements of a lunar rover mission

- work with engineers from ispace Japan to support integration of components to ispace's standard mechanical and electrical interfaces

- describe, design and update payload interfaces for customers of space robotics projects

- perform trade studies and research for future space robotics projects


- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent

- 3+ years of experience performing finite element analysis

- Experience supporting manufacturing processes


- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field

- Design and simulation using composite materials

- Solidworks, FEMAP and NASTRAN experience

- Finite Element Analysis experience

- Small spacecraft design and / or integration
