Embedded Hardware Engineer


LOCATION - TOKYO, JAPAN


This job is to create embedded hardware for the next-generation of spacecraft and planetary rovers for ispace, inc. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge base for electronics design including board design for CPU modules, high speed signals for items such as memory modules, and some knowledge of RF engineering. The job includes all phases of design, from defining system architecture, to schematics and layout, to supporting small scale manufacturing and hardware debugging. Prior experience with high reliability designs (for example in aerospace, medical or automotive industries) is a must. The ideal candidate has experience in minimizing power consumption and an understanding of radiation effects on electronics. A desire to iterate designs quickly and interest in performing hands-on prototyping is a must. The first 2 projects in this position is performing design and layout of PCBs for controllers and microcontrollers, including interfaces to cameras and other sensors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Participate in product definition, specification and requirements phases

- Collaboration on architecture design and wiring harness design with a team of engineers

- Documenting requirements and specifications for embedded electronics projects

- perform schematics and layout design for PCBs

- prototyping of electronics including assembly and testing

- Support integration, troubleshooting and testing of electronics


REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), or equivalent

- 5+ years of experience designing and coding embedded firmware for a high-reliability application

- Design experience across a range of embedded platforms from deeply embedded (8/16-bit, limited memory, no RTOS) to embedded RTOS or Linux-based platforms

- Experience with communication and networking protocols (I2C, SPI, RS-485, CAN, etc)

- Comfortable with debuggers and scopes


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

- Proficient in high-level structured programming languages (e.g. C, C++)

- Experience using Linux device tree to configure hardware

- Specific experience designing PCBs that integrate high resolution cameras and CPU modules
