Embedded Engineer


LOCATION - TOKYO, JAPAN


This job is to create firmware for the next-generation of spacecraft and planetary rovers for ispace, inc. The ideal candidate will have a broad base including firmware development, hardware design and knowledge of communication networks. The job includes all phases of design, from defining system architecture, to supporting small scale manufacturing and hardware debugging. Prior experience with high reliability designs (for example in aerospace, medical or automotive industries) is a must. The ideal candidate has experience in minimizing power consumption and an understanding of radiation effects on electronics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Participate in product definition, specification and requirements phases

- Collaboration on firmware architecture and development strategy.

- Design, code, integrate, test, support and enhance software solutions for embedded microprocessors for controlling power subsystems, relaying sensor data, performing watchdog functions, etc

- Integrate hardware to embedded Linux systems

- Develop and enforce coding standards that allow automated reliability testing of firmware

- Perform integration, troubleshooting and testing including single event and total dose radiation testing


REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), or equivalent

- 5+ years of experience designing and coding embedded firmware for a high-reliability application

- Proficient in high-level structured programming languages (e.g. C, C++)

- Experience across a range of embedded platforms from deeply embedded (8/16-bit, limited memory, no RTOS) to embedded RTOS or Linux-based platforms

- Experience using Linux device tree to configure hardware

- Experience with communication and networking protocols (I2C, SPI, RS-485, CAN, etc)

- Comfortable with debuggers and scopes


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

- Experience integrating imaging sensors including Linux device tree configuration and driver development

- Experience in PCB design

- Space mission experience
